'Gen Con offers attractive group rates at many downtown and outlying hotels in the Indianapolis area. Rates start as low as $80 per night at outlying properties and $147 per night at downtown hotels, subject to hotel choice, room occupancy, and remaining availability. Purchase of any Gen Con badge will admit attendees to the Gen Con housing portal, where more information about hotel rates and available inventory may be accessed.'

This will be my first trip to Gen Con, but if my experience with Origins has any bearing, the prices go down as you get further from the inner city. I've also used services like Priceline before and they actually did a good job. The only problem is that they can only advertise hotels and motels that bother to list with them. But it's nice to be able to read reviews of the hotel before you lay out a credit card # to reserve your room.

That being said, you might see if anyone on the RedBrick forums would like to split a room and share the costs. That's what we're doing on the dev. team. It's actually my current assignment to arrange the rooms for them, so I can give a heads up as to where we may be staying once the housing portal opens up.

Ahhh, sweet, then I'll have to wait a few days for that to open up.

But unfortunately, I'm gonna have to stick with the downtown/close to event hotels. Which means more $$ flying in, and thus would rather be closer, than have to figure out means back/forth to hotel.

Done those distant from hotel events when in Military, and would rather avoid the whole shuttle/taxi thing.

Google Maps is your friend if you want to see exactly what is close. Smile

Got a MapQuest page for that :-).

But all the "close" stuff is on the tad expensive side. Course they all probably know exactly what weekend Gen Con is, and have higher rates planned just for said dates.

Yeah you can pretty much count on that. Probably ANY convention weekend.

Also, Not all of the Hotels downtown will take part in the GenCon reservation system. I'll be staying at the Homewood suites with Jamz and several other friends. Iirc, At HS you can register up to 6 people per room. Wink

Just an FYI for when event registration goes live - I have 4 games in the system that I am running. One every day of the con at around noon. They may be listed under Rogue Judges or my name (Todd Bogenrief) not sure which.

See you at GenCon!

I decided to go with the latest and greatest, so 3e. Smile That way if new players get pulled in they can look at the books and maybe buy some.

As an added bonus the 2 main rulebooks for 3rd edition are a lot lighter than my gigantic print outs of the compendiums so it will make my backpack a lot lighter.

On the downside I really have to get around to painting all the ED minis I bought a while back so I can use them at GenCon. Smile

Be ware of Jehuthra, Wormskull, and Despairthought. Twisted Evil

Glad to hear someone is going to take up the mantle of running a game. Smile

I hope to be there to at least watch.

If a game fills up I will try to accomodate an extra player or two with generics if there is room at the table.

@ Chronicler

James and I will probably sit in and and take a spot if there's one handy. We'd rather new players have a chance at it first but we'll definitely stop by either way. We won't be around on Thursday much til late evening. The dev group are taking a daytrip to hang out and get to know one another apart from work.

Awesome!

In regards to new players when I ran 2 years ago at GenCon everyone was an ED pro and I don't think we had any "new" players. This year I added 2 more games and there is a shiny 3rd edition being marketed so we'll see what happens. Very Happy

Less than six months left to go. I can't wait!
