That is assuming there will be a GenCon 2010.
It is August 2010, what version of Earthdawn would you want to play at a convention?
I just pre-ordered my 3rd Ed. books from Amazon so hopefully they will be available to ship here in the next couple of months and I am hoping that I will be able to get to GenCon next year and run some more ED games.
I would plan to run about 4 game slots so I think I will want to have two adventures ready to go. The adventures may be related, but I don't want a Part 1 and Part 2 because those are not as accessible to incoming gamers and the group dynamic could change dramatically between the two sections of adventure at a convention.

I know I'll be hitting up Origins next year, maybe Gencon if finances allow. There is a possibility that I may be volunteering some time there. I don't really have a preference to a system at this point. I wouldn't mind learning the new one if I haven't by then.

Hmmm, well if I can make it over the pond i'd love to partake of some ED fun. ED3 is OK with me, plus I tend to find its best to run the latest publication version to introduce new players to to wonders of Earthdawn.

Cool, where would you be travelling from?

Currently residing in the good old UK ATM. We'll have to see if that changes as I'd love to work abroad, but we'll see how the job opportunites go.

We all know vacations and conventions take at least 2 things. Planning and money. Fortunately for us, we know when Gencon is happening next year. August 5-8, 2010. No matter which game you favor, there's gonna be something there for everyone.
I challenge you: Plan ahead now. Put it on your calendar so you remember to request off work in advance. Starting in December, there are 36 weeks until the start of Gencon. Take $10, $25, or more each week and set it aside where you won't touch it. Put it in a savings account, a Paypal account, a jar in the bottom of your closet, whatever. By the time Gencon gets here, you should have $360 to $900 saved up for games, food, books, dice, etc. plus a room should you decide to overnight.
I plan to be there next summer, and I know a few others who are going. Our plans are still in the air until Gencon opens up scheduling online, but rest assured, this early bird is going to be prepared.
Want to meet up? Leave your name here and I'll add you to the list and update you as our plans move forward. Perhaps some of you can share a room or carpool and cut your costs.
Come on, it's an adventure in the making. Start packing your gear, decide party order, and set up watch for the night with us.

Hmmm, you know it has been a while since I got out and about to meet new and interesting foreign gamers. And GenCon is really one of the biggies in the field.
Time to start aaving then - first up is a new passport as the last one expired a few months ago. That's £100 for starters, but the thing'll last for ten years of international Dice-bys for sure. Then there's sorting out the flight, which i guess will go for about £500 return and the little task of getting a travel visa for the States.
Looks as if I'll need about £1,000 to assure accomodation and food. Oh yeah, and I better not foget the actual admission tickets either.
You know, I may actually manage to do this.

Greetings all! Some news from GENCON...
For those Gamemasters planning to run some games at GENCON, Event Submission starts January 13th.
And if you'd like to preregister for events, that doesn't start until April 11th.
I'll keep you posted on any other news as I find it.
Laters,
Dawn

I'm just hoping to have the money to go, other stuff to take care of first.
I'm not planning to play anything, just hoping to get out of this place and meet other Barsaivians.

You can get early bird badges on Jan. 24th. It's $68 to $78 for a 4-day badge and $28 to $38 for a 1-day badge depending on whether you grab the early bird special.
I know of at least 9 devs planning to be there.

I really want to go, but its the Dev's and Barsaivians that I'm going for.
I'm very hesitant to try to do a game when that one time would be only time I'm likely to play it.
If I go, I'll probably pay the 4-day package, but that's just so I can have options for getting around. But its primarily the Name-Giver's that interest me.

Speaking of which, is there a hotel that people are looking at for rates right now?
I've only looked at one, and O.o $271 a night for the first one I looked up.
Haven't sat down to be seriously looking though.

Well, having sat down to research better:
Best Hotel I could find thus far costs: $173 per night.
But that's not using the "Priceline" or similar places to attempt to negotiate, and to be honest, I'm not so trusting of them.
